New York City Colocation - Manhattan colocation
solutions are varied and the market in New York is complex.
There are some buildings that are better connected than
others and some in better physical locations for customers
due to their location. The two main most reknown data
centers, are also called Carrier Tel Co Hotels because
all of the phone and fiber companies are tenants in
the building. They are the best solution for server
colocation in New York and they are located at 60 Hudson
St, and 111 Eighth Avenue. The reason these two buildings
are infamous is because they are connected to an extraordinary
amount of fiber. They also house the most elite and
largest telecommunications and Internet networks. These
buildings both house carrier neutral peering facilties
such as TelX (formerly NYC Connect), Digital Realty
Trust, and Switch and Data (PAIX). In fact Switch and
Data, one of the finest facilities has connected 60
Hudson to 111 Eighth Avenue together. 111 Eighth Avenue
is so large it encompasses an entire city block end
to end. The rear address of the building is 76 Ninth
Avenue. 111 8th Avenue and 76 Ninth Avenue is also the
headquarters of Google Inc., dubbed "GooglePlex
East", which occupies four floors inside the building
as well as an additional 100,000 square feet of office
space in nearby Chelsea Market. Both 60 Hudson St and
111 Eighth Avenue are more expensive than other colocation
data centers because they are so well connected and
in such heavy demand by industry leading tenants. Unfortunately
it is extremely difficult to find colocation rack space
as both buildings are 98% occupied and operating at
full physical capacity and at full power capacity. Fortunately
there are some other colocation facilties in New York
City such as 100 William Street and 75 Broad Street,
that are not near capacity and make acceptable data
centers for most small businesses.
Queens Colocation - While Queens New York is
off the beaten path, there are companies with Internet
Presence in Queens. Some colocation facilities in Queens
are quite good and there have been numerous startup
ISPs operating from this area, just 5 minutes outside
Manhattan. Long Island City in particular has a tech
district. Metro Gig-E fiber strands run from 111 Eighth
Avenue in a loop down Northern Boulevard up to Long
Island and back down Queens Boulevard back to the Tel
Co Hotel. Anyone looking for fiber connectivity for
their office to set up their own data center, will have
a lot of choices.
Brooklyn Colocation - Brooklyn is well connected,
and just south of Queens. There are quite a few colocation
locations and data centers established inside brooklyn
as a less expensive alternative to Manhattan, and much
of Brooklyn is well connected by fiber.
