Colocation Long Island - Long Island provides the New York City area
and Long Island itself with a lot of fiber for business
solutions.
Colocation Nassau County - The Long Island Data
and Recovery Center (LIDARC) in Westbury, NY opened
fall 2007 at 1025 Old Country Road to provide local
companies and providers with an alternative to routing
their Internet traffic through Manhattan. The building
is in an Empire Zone with Economic Development incentives
available. The 175,000 square foot LIDARC facility is
the largest carrier-neutral colocation facility on Long
Island and is part of a "Manhattan Bypass Network" built
by Optical Communications Group. The company runs underwater
cables from Brooklyn to Staten Island and Staten Island
to New Jersey. The facility also provides access to
five transatlantic cable landings in Long Island, located
in Shirley, Brookhaven, Island Park, Northport and Bellport.
Multiple carriers and ISPs are available in the centrally
located building "Meet Me Room." Space is available
to house all sizes and types of technology hardware
from servers, routers, and switches in racks, cabinets
and cages, as well as complete "build-to-suit" floors.
This data center hopes to act as a traffic hub for network
providers for all of Long Island. On Tec Street in Hicksville,
you'll find The New York NOC data center operated by
Global Enterprise Technologies. The corporate office
is in Port Washington. They utilize Level(3), Global
Crossing, Sprint, Cogent Optical Network, and WV Fiber.
Though this particular facility is not carrier neutral,
it still offers excellent and redundant colocation.
Convergent Network Services is also in Hicksville. Over
in Plainview, NY is NXCONN Wireless, a privately held
company that provides a complete range of communication
services to business, education, and residential customers.
This full service company is supported by an advanced
NOC in Nassau County with operations in South Florida,
as well. Wave2Wave is a company based in Hackensack,
NJ that provides colocation services, among others,
to Erie, Monroe, Nassau, and Westchester counties.
Colocation Suffolk County- In Suffolk County
is EEZI. They operate under AccessIT's Managed Services
Division with a variety of clients ranging between large
enterprises down to the small and home-based Internet
Industry sectors. EZZI provides many services along
with colocation in its several Tier-1 data centers.
Cities to look to for colocation in Suffolk County are
Melville, Huntington, Babylon, Hamlet, Commack, Islandia,
Stony Brook and Great River.
Colocation Melville - VastNet is located in Melville with a increasingly
popular colocation service. Their facility is claimed
to be the only "true" carrier-neutral colocation facility
on Long Island. The company is cross-connected to most
major Telecom players you can think of, including: MCI,
New York Telecom Grou, AboveNet, AT&T, Peer 1 Network,
Time Warner, and XO Communications. Melville, like most
other Long Island locations, provides an alternative
to collocating in the big city and having to fight traffic
to Manhattan to access your servers.
Colocation Huntington - Huntington's
colocation options are limited and scarce. There are
small service providers like Neat Communications providing
local service, but there are many more appealing options
in the area around Huntington. In the end, it still
depends on what your company's needs are.
Colocation Babylon -
Colocation Commack - Commack, a Hamlet that's part of the town
of Huntington in Long Island, has a 16,000 sq. ft. data
center and network operations center (NOC) operated
and Headquartered by Invision. The facility is fully
N+1 redundant and is the command center of all its network
and Internet services, including colocation and disaster
recovery solutions. This facility managed to stay lit
with its backup generators during the Northeast power
outage of August 2003. Designed on Cisco multilevel
architecture, Invision's facility redundant fiber optic
connections included dual OC 48 and OC 12 connections
from Verizon, OC 12 Sonet from AT&T, OC 3 from Cablevision
Lightpath, and Gig-E from Keyspan, each entering through
separate trenches.
Colocation Islandia - Located in Suffolk
County, Islandia provides Long Island and the NYC area
with a few options of its own. TWS Hosting offers a
variety of colocation packages on Hoffman Lane.
Colocation Stony Brook -
Colocation Great River - Lightspeed Holdings
has a state-of-the-art data center in Great River, NY.
Its construction was to serve the company's E-commerce
services, but the facility has the capacity to serve
as a colocation facility, as well. Vizacom Inc has a
data center in Great River offering services that range
between web hosting, colocation, and data recovery.
EZZI owns space in the Long Island Tech Center on 3500
Sunrise Highway. That location may be home to more colocation
service providers as well.
Garden City Colocation - Garden City is one
of Nassau County's villages that provide colocation
services. Level(3) is located in Garden City on 71 Clinton
Road. The Level(3) facility has access to MCI, Verizon,
and Universal Access. There is also MFN fiber that runs
back to Northern Boulevard for anyone that needs metro
Gig-E fiber.
